One-on-One Text Chat With a Person You Choose
Some messages are meant for one person, not everyone in a group. A one-on-one text chat keeps the exchange with the member you chose: ask about a shared interest, respond to their answer and return to the same conversation later.
On WAB2, adults create a free account, search member profiles and write directly where contact settings allow it. No mutual like is required. Basic search and text messaging do not require Premium, but anti-spam limits apply and the recipient decides whether and when to reply.

A direct message is separate from a shared room. It is not a promise of anonymous or disappearing messages; WAB2 processes account and message data under its policies.

Start a Direct Conversation
- Sign in and open a member profile that gives you a reason to talk.
- Read the introduction and check that the person's purpose fits the exchange you want.
- Use the message option where it is available, write a short opening and send it.
- Continue through that person's conversation page using Write a message for your next reply.
Check the recipient before sending. “You mentioned that you're learning guitar. Which song have you enjoyed practising?” belongs in the conversation with that person, not in a room full of unrelated readers. For more on choosing whom to approach, see talking to people online.
Keep One Thread for One Person
A direct conversation lets you follow the back-and-forth with one member instead of addressing a group. Reply to something they said before introducing a new topic. If you both want to continue later, you can add the profile to Contacts to find it more easily; that is your saved list, not a mutual friendship request.
The conversation view shows available messages from the last 30 days. It is not a permanent archive, and the display window does not mean all older service records have been erased. The private-chat guide explains message visibility and data boundaries in more detail.
Send Text or an Optional Attachment
You can keep the exchange entirely in text. If you both want to share a supported file, each participant must enable Allow files in private chats in Protection. When the settings allow it, the message form includes Attach a file. Upload size limits depend on the sender's account features; optional Premium extras are separate from basic conversation.
Explain what an attachment contains before sending it, and let the other person decline. Do not send documents containing account codes, identity numbers or financial details. Either participant can remove a shared attachment from the chat on the site, but removal cannot recall a copy already downloaded.

Let the Conversation Pause
One-on-one does not mean on demand. You can answer when you have time rather than keeping a live call open. A quick “I need to go, but I'd enjoy hearing the rest later” makes your intention clear without setting a required reply schedule.
If a message is unavailable, read the reason shown by the site. Contacts-only settings, Ignore, account-age preferences and other contact restrictions can affect access. A visible profile or recent visit does not guarantee that a person is available, and repeated attempts do not override their settings.
Change the Format When the Audience Changes
If several members need to discuss the same subject, a group chat room can keep their shared replies together. WAB2 rooms use invitation keys; a direct exchange is not automatically posted into one. Ask before copying somebody's message to a wider audience.
You can also end contact. Add to ignore on a member's profile stops the direct exchange in both directions. Report is available after an account is 14 full days old; use Contact for help if it is not available. Read the chat safety guide for precautions, or return to the chat guide to compare formats.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need Premium for one-on-one text chat?
No. You need a free account to search member profiles and use core text messaging. Optional Premium features are separate, and contact settings and anti-spam limits still apply.
Will my direct messages appear in a group room?
No. Direct conversations and group rooms are separate. Another participant could still copy what you send, and WAB2 processes message data under its policies.
Why is the attachment option not available?
Both participants must enable Allow files in private chats in Protection. Supported file types and account upload limits also apply. You can continue with text without sharing a file.
Why can I see a profile but not send a message?
Profile visibility does not grant message access. Contact restrictions, Ignore, account status or anti-spam limits can prevent a message. Read the displayed explanation and respect the restriction rather than trying to bypass it.
