Text Chat Online With No Camera or Microphone
Prefer to type rather than join a call? WAB2 lets adults have text conversations in a browser. Read a message, think about your answer and reply in writing. You do not need to show your face, speak aloud or give the text chat access to a camera or microphone.
Create a free account, browse member profiles and choose whom to message. Core text messaging is free; each member's contact settings and account limits still apply.

Read and Reply at Your Own Pace
Written conversation is useful when a call does not fit your surroundings: other people may be sleeping, you may be somewhere noisy, or you may simply want time to choose your words. Your message can be a sentence or two; it does not need the pace of a live voice conversation.
Give the other person the same flexibility. A reply may arrive while you are reading, later in the day, or not at all. Activity information helps you decide whom to approach, but it does not mean someone is ready to answer immediately.
Start a Written Conversation in Your Browser
- Register and sign in to WAB2.
- Open a member profile and read their introduction.
- Choose the message option and write a short note about an interest they shared.
- Send it, then check the conversation for a reply when convenient.
WAB2 does not automatically pair you with a random stranger. There is no mutual-like requirement, although contact settings or account restrictions can prevent a message. For ideas about approaching someone unfamiliar, see how to talk to strangers online.

No Camera, Microphone or SMS Required
Text chat on WAB2 uses messages on the website. It is not SMS, and a recipient does not need your telephone number to read your messages. Camera and microphone access are unnecessary for the written conversation.
Choose one-to-one text chat when you want to exchange messages with one person. If you want several invited people in the same conversation, read about group chat.
Text Chat on an Older Phone or Slower Connection
The core conversation pages use ordinary links and forms, so you can read and send messages without JavaScript. Written messages also avoid the continuous audio or video stream a call needs. This can make text a practical choice when your device or connection struggles with live media.
Keep messages simple if your connection is unreliable. Photos and file attachments use more data than plain text. Your device still needs a working browser and internet access; speed depends on your connection as well as the page.
Make Your Meaning Clear in Writing
Without tone of voice, a short message can sound different from what you intended. Ask one question at a time and add enough context for the other person to understand it. “You mentioned gardening—what are you growing this season?” is easier to answer than “Tell me everything.”
If a phrase is unfamiliar, ask what it means rather than guessing. You can reread a message before replying, which is particularly useful when people have different first languages.
Keep Personal Details Out of Your Messages
No-camera chat still leaves written words that another person can copy or save. Do not send passwords, account codes, financial details or your exact address. Avoid sharing a telephone number or moving to another service just because someone pressures you.
A nickname limits what you disclose to other members, but it does not make an account untraceable. The anonymous chat guide explains that distinction. If a conversation becomes threatening or unwanted, stop replying and use ignore or report. Review the chat safety guide for further advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to register for text chat?

Will text chat work on an older phone or slow connection?
The core text pages work without JavaScript and do not need a live audio or video stream. A compatible browser and internet access are still required, and speed depends on your device and connection.
